The Black Cat is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe and it portrays the ability of the human mind to assess itself. The story revolves around guilt psychology and around a murderer who commits a crime and is able to conceal his crime. In the story the narartor kills his black cat and then his house gets caught on fire. Black cats are known to be an omen of bad luck, a theme that runs throughout literature.You can say this could be bad luck because he killed the black cat. He then finds a stray cat that reminds him of his old cat but he feel some sort of guilt for killing his pet. After killing his wife and hiding her body in the walls, the narrator tries to hide the truth by walling up his wife’s body but the voice of the black cat helps bring him to justice.
